Video Archive

To start off I want to have an archive of some video work that I have done. One easy place to check it out.

Here is the video for The National that I co-directed this with my friend Tom Berninger. Tom is Matt, the singer's brother, and we are lucky that we were allowed to have a crack at this. So we called ourselves Thread-Count. This name may or may not be used by us for future projects. We'll see. This song is called Mistaken For Strangers from the album Boxer on Beggars Banquet. Boy oh boy these gents are finally getting their due it seems. Lots of good tunes on the new one and if you are just catching on, you better do yourself a favor and dig into their back catalog. These guys didn't just spring forth out of nowhere.

Next up is my video for Southerly. The song is Soldiers off the album Storyteller and The Gossip Columnist on Greyday Records. I really like the way this one came out. A continuation of my abstract videos, yet at the same time, going in new directions. I also just recently went on a western U.S. tour with Krist and his full band. Much fun was had. Lots of footage to go through and put together into something.

Here is a sample song for the soon to be released Akron/Family dvd The Great American Mess. The dvd will come free with their new album Love is Simple on Young God Records this fall. I'm not remembering the official date, but should be very soon now. The dvd contains almost two hours of live performances from the end of their tour a year or so ago. I took my friend Brendan Finney along to shoot second camera on this. I edventually edited this all together and Seth from A/F help with the selection process. This song is called Moment. Hope this captures their awesome live show.

And this is the one I did for Damien Jurado and Secretly Canadian a couple of years ago now. This one was a really big step forward for me, even though it seemed so much simpler than what I had been doing. Sometimes, really most times simple is beautiful.

This one is feeling really old now, but I'm still proud of it. Especially as it was my first big video undertaking and I did it almost entirely all on my own. Wise Old Little Boy. The documentary on K Record artists The Microphones and Little Wings. I had a great time making this and was really into their tunes and their attitude about playing shows. I am still so greatful that Phil and Kyle gave me a shot and let me come along. This documentary attempts to capture something that is pretty elusive; touring in this really grassroots kind of way. Playing small, out of the way towns, in houses and non-traditional venues. This sort of thing goes on in many different circles and I think it is so cool and can be a really special thing. This is my favorite era from both these guys...

Oh yeah and The Glow Pt.2 is going to be re-released in October with lots of goodies and may be the perfect time to pick up a copy of Wise Old Little Boy if you've been sitting around waiting to do so.
